Quick Newbie Tips On Promoting
By Donesia Muhammad Copyright (C) 2002 KDM Publishing
Here is a list of some of the essentials that you should have on
hand when you first start to promote your website or ezine.
These are things that I am still in the process of getting
together myself, so learn from my mistakes and you'll do fine.
Ad Copy
Always keep the following types of ad copy on hand for your
ezine, website and products / services.
Solo Ad ( usually around 10-20 lines) Allow it to be flexible in
case your ad doesn't meet a publishers guidelines. In other
words, if you need to remove a line or two, make sure the ad is
still effective.
Top Sponsor Ad ( usually 7-10 lines long) Again, have it ready if
it needs to be edited.
Middle Sponsor Ad (usually 5-7 lines of text)
Also have on hand:
5 and 6 line ads for Ad Swaps
Makes it easier when you get involved in ezine ad swaps, link
exchanges, quick descriptions for directories.
Signature Lines
Signature lines are basically the extra lines of text you say
following a person's salutations in an email. You can call it a
P.S. in a sense because it is supposed to get people to notice
and read it.
Include a signature line for all your corresponding email. People
do read signature lines, trust me they do.
I also have different signature lines for different purposes.
Strictly Business Signature Line
This is for when you are contacting another business and you are
nothing but professional. This will usually include
Full Name
Business Name
Website URL
Email Address
Any Slogan or Motto ( if applicable)
Physical Address ( Depending On Your Type Of Business)
First Time Contact Signature Line
This will usually include the usual name, web address and email
address. The difference is that this file normally would hold a
quick ad copy of either your ezine, site or most profitable
affiliate program.
Usually this is for contacting other webmasters and publishers in
your field.
This is also the same file you would use when composing any email
with your site visitors and ezine readers.
Tailor the Sig Line to Suit Your Purposes
If you are speaking with a webmaster, use the opportunity to add
an affiliate program that will benefit the webmaster.
Have a good tool for publishers, use it when you're dealing with
publishers, no matter what type of ezine they may have.
We all have selective memory. I can't always place a name with a
product, so remind me with your sig line.
Do You Have a House List??
As soon as you start to get yourself established online, you need
a house list. I am not talking about your ezine list, that's
different.
Your house list are highly targeted business men and women who
are in a position to hear and act upon your offers.
Aunt Sally is not in your house list, neither is someone who just
signed up for your ezine last week.
Unless Aunt Sally is involved in your niche and the reader who
just signed up is in your field, then they won't be added.
Actually most of these people are your friends. You have either
done some sort of joint venture with them or maybe they have paid
for advertising with your ezine, or bought one of your products.
But these are the people you want to find out about your new
products before the general public.
It takes a while to build this list. The longer you have been
doing business, the larger your list will become.
Just something to think about in the near future.
You do plan on being around then, correct???
